“We’re all somebody else’s freaks,” decreed legendary French designer Jean Paul Gaultier in the 2019 documentary Freak & Chic.

It may be challenging to be unconventional when bundled up from the cold, but Mr. Gaultier has you covered (literally) with this black, goose down-filled bondage coat. From his JPG by Gaultier unisex line  started in 1994 — this autumn/winter 2003 jacket showcases a funnel neck and parachute clasps.

After 50 years in the fashion industry, Jean Paul Gaultier announced his retirement in January 2020. In all this time, what is Jean Paul Gaultier best known for? The legendary designer helmed a post-Margiela Hermès for seven years – in addition to propelling his own ready-to-wear and couture lines into popular culture via unconventional runway models, Madonna’s iconic cone bra, costume design for films such as The Fifth Element, and 2019’s Supreme collaboration (to name a few).
